Recurrent Miscarriage

Miscarriage refers to pregnancy loss after conception has produced measurable amounts of hCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin) in the blood or urine, or the fetus has developed a gestational sac or a heart beat is visible on ultrasound during the first 20 weeks of pregnancy.  Studies have show that between 15-25% of pregnancies will end in miscarriage.  The vast majority of these being chemical pregnancies, where the pregnancy is lost shortly after implantation.

Recurrent miscarriage or is often considered three or more pregnancy losses. We recommend considering evaluation at two pregnancy losses to begin to determine the nature of the previous pregnancy losses.  It is thought that there may be only a small amount difference between the second and subsequent losses and earlier evaluation can help to rule out significant factors and help to decrease the physical and emotional stress of another loss.
